Title: HR Specialist

Reports To: Strategic HR - HR Manager

Pay: $24 to $30/hour

Experience Required: 3–5 years in Human Resources, preferably in a multi-state or staffing environment.

Location: Raleigh, NC (Hybrid)

This role requires a highly organized and independent HR professional with strong decision-making capabilities, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to manage risk while handling employee matters across the full employee lifecycle. The HR Specialist will be responsible for answering HR inquiries, handling background check escalations, supporting employee relations, and assisting operations through high attention to detail and timely task execution.

Essential Job Duties:

Employee & Stakeholder Support:

  • Provide timely and professional responses to HR inquiries and tickets.
  • Conduct intake calls related to employee relations concerns and complaints with professionalism and neutrality.
  • Support onboarding processes for all internal customers, including customer setup in Oasis and Efficient Forms, including E-Verify and I-9 verifications.
  • Maintain consistent, unbiased, and confidential handling of employee information and interactions.

Background Check / Drug Screen Adjudication and Setup:

  • Review and adjudicate background check escalations using defined guidelines and job-specific criteria.
  • Support internal setup with defined BGC vendors and specific industry/client requirements.
  • Provide initial background check ticket responses within 24 hours; advise on final resolution within 48 hours.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with background and hiring policies.

Employee Policy & Compliance:

  • Conduct PTO and paid sick leave accrual audits and partner with payroll/finance for resolution.
  • Respond to unemployment claims, employment verifications, wage audits, and agency inquiries within required timelines.
  • Support the administration of employee policies.
  • Takes a proactive approach in recommending, developing, implementing, and maintaining solutions for HR workflow process improvement.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 3–5 years of HR experience, ideally in multi-entity or staffing environments.
  • Proficient in HR systems (e.g., HRIS, HR Ticketing, Background check/Drug Screen platforms).
  • Strong background in pre-employment and onboarding compliance.
  • Proven ability to handle employee relations, offboarding, and policy issues independently.
  • Skilled in risk assessment and resolving escalated HR matters within legal/compliance frameworks.
  • Clear, professional communicator (written and verbal) with accurate documentation skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage workload with minimal oversight.
  • Maintains impartiality, confidentiality, and a professional, ethical approach in all interactions.
