Job Title: Vice President of Operations

Location: Hybrid + Travel to project sites

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Compensation: Competitive salary + performance-based bonus + equity potential

We are seeking a Vice President of Operations to transform an EPC division. This role will drive the turnaround of an under-performing EPC organization facing projects that are over budget and inefficient.

The VP of Operations will have full authority to restructure teams, implement new systems, and foster accountability across departments while evaluating and executing a strategy for self-performing key scopes of work to enhance efficiency, financial stability, and scalability.

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee end-to-end project delivery, including development, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Establish a centralized Project Management Office (PMO) with robust governance to ensure projects meet time, budget, and scope goals.
  • Implement construction management controls for scheduling, forecasting, QA/QC, and change order processes.
  • Integrate ERP/PMP tools for real-time visibility into project performance and profitability.

Cost Control & Estimating

  • Develop a formal estimating function with a standardized cost library based on field data.
  • Reduce reliance on subcontractor bids by creating repeatable, bench marked cost models.
  • Ensure designs are reviewed for constructability and cost before approval.

Self-Perform Strategy

  • Assess build/buy options for key scopes (e.g., civil, electrical, structural).
  • Build and lead an internal construction team for standardized tasks, hiring a Field Construction Manager to oversee crew-based operations.
  • Implement systems for crew scheduling, compliance, safety, and job costing.

Organizational Leadership

  • Restructure Project Management and Engineering teams, making necessary personnel decisions.
  • Define clear roles, expectations, and accountability across EPC functions.
  • Align with Field Operations, Product, and Services teams for seamless workflows.

Client & Risk Management

  • Rebuild client trust through disciplined execution, clear documentation, and reliable scheduling.
  • Mitigate commercial risks via rigorous planning, scope validation, and internal reviews.
  • Act as the executive point of contact for key utility clients and partners.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years in EPC or construction management leadership, with a track record of turning around struggling operations.
  • Proven ability to build project delivery systems, estimating functions, and self-perform teams from the ground up.
  • Deep expertise in construction management, field execution, crew scheduling, and subcontractor oversight.
  • Proficiency in project controls (budgeting, scheduling, ERP integration, forecasting).
  • Ability to lead and motivate diverse teams across field and office settings.
  • Experience with regulated utility clients is a strong plus.
  • Strong leadership presence to drive cultural change and performance improvement.

This Role Is Not for You If:

  • You prefer optimizing stable operations over leading a turnaround.
  • You shy away from tough personnel decisions or challenging stakeholders..
  • You require pre-existing teams and systems to start
