Director of People Operations
Job Description:
Location: 100% Remote (may work anywhere within the continental U.S., but not in jurisdictions in the Pacific Time Zone)
Reports to: CEO / CTO / COO
Salary Range: $165,000 – $190,000 base, plus bonus and equity style benefits (commensurate with experience)

Position Summary
We’re seeking a strategic, hands-on Director of People Operations to lead and evolve our People function across both commercial and defense lines of business. You’ll be a trusted advisor to leadership, a steward of culture, and the architect of systems that enable sustainable scale—from ~100 to 300+ employees and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic People Leadership
- Work closely with executive leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, and leadership development
- Drive a people roadmap aligned with company growth and values
- Serve as a culture keeper through rapid hiring and change
Talent & Performance
- Oversee end-to-end recruiting in collaboration with Talent Acquisition partners and hiring managers
- Implement scalable performance management processes
- Develop compensation planning, benchmarking, and leveling frameworks
Operations & Compliance
- Own HRIS, onboarding/offboarding, benefits administration, and People analytics
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state employment laws and government contract regulations
- Design and maintain employee handbooks, internal policies, and lifecycle management
Employee Experience
- Lead internal communications, engagement strategies, and feedback loops
- Equip managers with best practices for people leadership and cohesion
- Foster a transparent, high-trust working environment
Requirements
- 7–10+ years in People Ops / HR, including leadership roles in high-growth software environments
- Expertise in employment law, benefits, compensation, and multi-state compliance (government contractor experience a plus)
- Proven track record scaling People operations from ~100 to 300+ employees
- High emotional intelligence, excellent communication, and strong judgment
- Experience in defense/government contracting or cleared environments is preferred
